Gingivoplasty
Aesthetics and functionality – a plastic solution for your bathroom
Gingivoplasty is a dental procedure that corrects the shape and position of the gums. It aims to restore the natural contour of the gums, improve the aesthetics of the smile and protect the teeth and gums from further problems.
When is gingivoplasty needed?
Gingivoplasty is performed for several reasons:
- Gingival recession – if the gums have receded and the tooth necks are exposed, there may be sensitivity and an increased risk of caries.
- Uneven gum line – If the shape or height of the gums is uneven, it can distort the appearance of the smile.
- “Gingival recession” – if a smile shows too much of the yoke, plastic can be used to achieve a more harmonious proportion.
- Preparation for implants or dentures – gum sculpting may also be necessary before the placement of dental implants or dentures to ensure a beautiful and natural finish.
How is the procedure done?
Labiaplasty is usually performed under local anaesthesia and the procedure is usually painless for the patient. Depending on the need, gum reshaping, gum grafting or removal of excess tissue may be used. Healing is rapid and most patients can resume daily activities the next day.
