Implantology
Implant therapy has proven to be a stable and long-lasting mechanism that is very comfortable for the patient. An implant can replace a single or several missing teeth. Implantation is a surgical procedure performed under local anaesthesia. Depending on the site of implantation and the quality of the bone, implants will ossify within three to six months, with the lower jaw ossifying faster than the upper jaw.
First, a thorough oral and general health check is performed, which includes an assessment of the jaw and surrounding mucosa. X-rays and/or other diagnostic tools are used to examine the quality of the bone and to determine the future location of the implant. This is followed by the preparation of models and an individualised surgical template (the ‘splint’) for precise placement of the implant in the jawbone. After the ossification phase is complete, the implant is prosthesis.
