Unfortunately, it is often mistakenly thought that orthodontic treatment can only be given after all the baby teeth have been replaced. However, it’s worth knowing that many dental problems can be treated and prevented earlier, and a child’s first orthodontic check-up could be as early as 6-7 years of age.\nEarly detection is key\nTooth problems are not always obvious to the untrained eye, and a seemingly straight tooth line does not necessarily mean that a child’s teeth are fine. Examples of signs of a problem include a large gap between the upper and lower teeth, the lower teeth being in front of the upper teeth, or the teeth not coming together properly. Detecting any of these problems as early as possible is key because the later the problem is addressed, the more time-consuming and complicated the treatment. It is easiest to carry out orthodontic treatment when the child’s jaws are still growing. Depending on the individual development of a particular young person, this is usually less than 15 years of age.
