This is usually caused by swelling and temporary stiffness of the chewing muscles. Moderate limitation is common during the first few days and generally improves as swelling subsides.<\/p>\n<h2>What can you do?<\/h2>\n<p>Do not force your mouth open. Choose soft foods and follow your dentist\u2019s instructions for pain relief. If your dentist allows it, begin gentle opening and closing exercises after a few days.<\/p>\n<h2>When should you contact the clinic?<\/h2>\n<p>Contact the clinic if opening becomes more difficult, does not improve within about a week, or is accompanied by fever, increasing swelling, pus or severe pain.
